A Plank a Day

I was seeing the #plankaday tweets for…well, for awhile now. So, tonight, decided to DO it. Jake decided he would try it, too. Of course, he thought I meant “plank” as in the internet picture phenomenon of “planking”. So, after demonstrating a “proper” plank, we broke out the yoga mats and set the stopwatch on the phone.

The first try, I think I got to about 45 seconds, but Sparks felt the need to sniff my phone mid-way through and the stopwatch went off the screen.

We decided to give it another try - 30 seconds for both! Not too shabby.

I should also mention I went for a short 2-miler beforehand. My legs were a bit sore from yesterday’s WOD, so I needed to work out the soreness. Mission accomplished! Jake also came along, but didn’t do much actual running. More talking/walking, and did not make it the total distance. It’s a start - I’ve been trying to get him out there.

Now…back to helping him with his math homework. Wish us both luck.

Football!!

My favorite thing about Fall? All the football!! Stayed in last night and watched the Longhorns beat Ole Miss (just 66-31). Hook ‘Em!

Jake was ready to cheer on the Horns.

He had a dance he did each time they scored. I really wish I would have been on top of it and video’d them. Good stuff.

In honor of my burnt orange team, I made some baked sweet potato chips. The first batch - yum!

The second? Well, the smoke alarm went off, so there are no pictures of those. Oops.

Jake is playing Fall Ball this year, and his first game is scheduled for today. However, the weather doesn’t appear to be cooperating. He’s pretty bummed - keeps going and looking out the window. The coach hasn’t called to say it’s canceled yet, so we’ll wait and see.

Hope everyone has a nice relaxing Sunday!

Happy Wednesday!

Started the morning with a short walk with Sparks, then headed out to Milestone Crossfit. Learned something called bear complexes - and they are complex! I’m not the most coordinated person, so it took a little extra brain power.

Had some trouble with squats, but I think I just need to work on it. It still seems like my left leg isn’t quite up to par with the right, but it’s getting better. They’re so much better than those lopsided “squats” I was doing in physical therapy earlier this year. So, I know I can continue to improve - it’ll just take some practice.

After work I dropped Jake off at baseball practice and went over to the track to do some intervals. Going back to my old high school track is a little awesome for a couple of reasons. One being that I can actually RUN on my old high school track now, the other being when people I went to school with see me running on the track I don’t think it even occurs to them that it’s me.

Finished the day off with a turkey burger (no bun) and sweet potato fries. Then some greek yogurt with a banana and blueberries (and a sprinkle of cinnamon) for dessert.

Now let’s get the rest of the week done!!

Sunday Funday!

So, a nice little “cold” front blew in this weekend. Meaning, instead of temps in the 100’s, they were in the 90’s. The mornings, however, were nice and cool. Perfect running weather. Took a nice little 3 mile run this morning, and finished it off with walking lunges up the driveway.

After a nice hot shower, I took my first crack at making Paleo pancakes. Sparks only got 2 of them (I have a habit of burning at least 2 per batch of regular pancakes, and these were no exception).

I’ve been researching this way of eating, and it makes sense to me. When I found the pancake recipe on Mark’s Daily Apple, it sort of sealed the deal. I am, however, struggling with giving up grains and dairy - I never met a cheese I didn’t like. So, I’ll say I’m doing a Paleo-ish diet. ;)

Hung around the house, watched a little of the Browns game, and then headed to the mall with Ali. She found a new jacket at Hot Topic. The zipper is in the back.

I found some new socks. In case I haven’t mentioned, I have a bit of a sock fetish. These will be perfect for my next race!

Now it’s time to do laundry and get ready for the week. The fun never stops around here.
